5 Design Ideas for Your Basement
The great thing about a basement is that the design ideas are endless. You can turn a basement into so many different things, depending on what your family is looking for.
The hard part, though, is deciding on which route to go. Do your kids need somewhere to play? Maybe it’s time for a home theatre you’ve been dreaming about? What about a workout area, so you don’t have to drive to the gym?
If you’re struggling on how to design your basement, take a look at some of our favourite ideas to use as your inspiration.
Home Theatre Room
Who doesn’t love going to the movies? The big screen, surround sound from every angle, relaxing in the seats, and eating as much popcorn as possible. What if you could have all of that in the comfort of your home?
Turn your basement into your own theatre. Paint the walls a neutral colour that won’t be distracting. Add lights in many places, like the walls and roof. Recessed lighting is an excellent choice for this. Of course, don’t forget about the big television and comfortable lounging chairs.
Home Gym
Turning your basement into a gym will save you time and money from driving to a gym (if you’re motivated to workout at home). If you have a big open space, it’s the perfect location to add in your favourite workout gear.
Keep the space bright and well lit. You want to see what you’re doing so you’re safe. Hardwood flooring will help provide a stable surface for all of your equipment. Add a few plants for a pop of colour and to provide fresh air to keep you energized.
Wine Cellar
If you’re a wine lover, then this one is for you. Turn your basement into a wine cellar. You can create a space for you and your friends to hang out in and discuss and test out your newest bottle of wine.
Make sure you have plenty of storage to lay bottles of wine in. You’ll want a spot for red that will keep at room temperature and a fridge for any white wines. Add some seating so you can relax and sip the day away with your favourite wine.
The Ultimate Kids Playground
Turn the upstairs into your oasis and the basement into the ultimate kid’s playground. Having a spot for your kids to run around in is excellent for everyone in the family, and the basement is the perfect spot to make it.
Paint the basement in bright colours, especially the ones that your kids love. Add carpet for a soft landing, just in case. Bring in their favourite toys, and create unique storage spaces to put them in after that brings the whole room together.
Your Hobby Room
Do you have a hobby that could use a room dedicated to it? Why not turn the basement into your space for your favourite activities? Whether you like to read, knit, do woodworking, or sew, convert the basement into your dedicated hobby space.
Depending on what your hobby is, that will help you design the space. For activities like sewing and knitting, you’ll want plenty of storage space to keep your space organized, and to have easy access to it. For something like woodworking, you’ll need to keep things open to allow space for your equipment.
Enjoy designing your basement. The options are only endless to your imagination.
