6 Bathroom Remodelling Tips to Help You Out
A bathroom is a place of many things. For some, it’s relaxation and serenity. For others, it’s busy and a place to start the day. No matter what the bathroom is for you, you want to design it in a way that reflects your style, and what you use it for.
If you’re thinking of remodelling your bathroom, there are a few things you should know to help you out. You want to ensure that your bathroom has all the amenities and fixtures you need so that it serves every purpose you have.
Before you begin, read through our following remodelling tips.
Have a Plan
When you start your remodel, you should have a plan. There’s no sense in tearing things down if you don’t know what your next step will be. A plan helps keep you on track, ensures that you don’t miss anything, and keeps you on budget.
First, decide what you want the atmosphere of the bathroom to be. Once you have that figured out, you can start to pick wall colours, light fixtures, decorations, and additional features.
Think Out the Layout
You want to layout your bathroom in a way that flows together. Do you want to have the toilet right next to the shower, or closer to the door? Will the toilet and sink be separate from the bath and shower? Would your family benefit from an extra sink? These are all questions to consider when discussing the layout.
Type of Lights
As you go through your planning, part of that should include deciding what type of lights to install. If you’re planning for a spa-like bathroom, you’ll want softer light fixtures that can dim. However, if the bathroom is simply for getting ready in the morning, brighter lights that resemble daylight would be best.
Ensure Proper Ventilation
It’s essential that the bathroom has proper ventilation. If not, there’s a good chance you’ll have mould issues down the road. When you use hot water in a small space, steam forms on the walls and glass. If you cannot remove the moisture from the air, the water begins to seep into the walls floors, and even cabinetry and will lead to mould growth.
Use Good Caulking
Caulk is what holds tiles together and forms a seal around sinks and tubs. That seal prevents water from sneaking into cracks and causing damage to the structure. Because of this, make sure you use high-quality caulking. Look for one that doesn’t require harsh chemicals to remove it.
When In Doubt, Get Help
Remodelling the bathroom is not an easy feat. It’s a big task to take on, especially if you’re doing it by yourself.
We recommended getting expert help for certain aspects of the remodelling, if not the whole thing. If you’re moving plumbing around, you’ll want a professional plumber to take care of those jobs. You should ensure it’s done right the first time so that it doesn’t turn into a bigger problem down the road.
